4 For the Lord is great and is highly praised; he is feared above all gods. 5 For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols, but the Lord made the heavens.
Psalm 96:4-5 CSB
As I clicked post, I felt a rush of emotions. Then, my mind went into a downward spiral of “How many likes will this get?”, “Is anybody going to comment on this?”, “What will others think of this?” Something as small as a post on social media exposed something in me. I followed the ways of the world and made an idol of social media.
Idols can take on many forms. From phones, to emotions, or even people, any thing placed over God can become a form of idolatry.
Fearing God means placing all other things beneath Him. When we thirst after the approval of man, we show the true nature of our hearts. Hearts full of pride, fear, and self-doubt. The blessing we have, as Believers, is God’s forgiveness. If we approach God with a humble heart, acknowledge our wrongdoings, and pray for mercy, God will hear and forgive (Isaiah 55:7).
Examine your daily life. Do you have disguised idols that need exposing? Are you reaching for social media before spending time with God? Are there any other areas of your life that need to be repositioned?
