Flustered and Frustrated

The phone disconnected. I could feel the anger rising in my body. A simple phone exchange had left me flustered and frustrated.

My head was spinning. I could make a million different choices in this moment, but honestly I could not tell which was right, or best, or in alignment with God’s will. I was spiraling from feeling frustrated to lost and confused.

Frustration is not new to God. Even Jesus experienced it. How he handled times of frustration show me that there are ways to move through the initial feelings and find peace.

John 16:33 (NIV) says, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Despite the troubles encountered each day, we have a choice to embrace peace. When we feel frustrated, stressed out, or filled with anxieties, we can recognize the feelings and surrender each and everyone of them in exchange for peace.

A prayer starter…

Dear Heavenly Father, I recognize these feelings of frustration can lead me astray from your will. Lord, I surrender these feelings today and ask you to envelop my heart with your peace. God, grant me the strength to navigate the coming moments… Amen.

It’s always eye-opening to see how little decisions add up; and how one small shift changes the trajectory of life. I truly believe that taking time to reflect during the month of January re-centers my vision for the year ahead.

The passage illustrates the importance of being a beacon of light in dim, dark places, as guided by Luke 11:33-36. One must not let comfort lead to dulled awareness, but instead consciously illuminate one’s environment. It urges self-reflection on how one’s personal light can lead others towards embracing Jesus.

Advent Reflections – Even in the Waiting – Day 4

The Lord’s Prayer 11 Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” 2 And he said to them, “When you pray, say: “Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. 3 Give us each day our daily bread, 4 and forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone
