As believers, we are God’s children. A child of God will reflect His character. Each week, we focus on one scripture while highlighting a declaration (Who God is) and affirmation (Who we are as believers).
This week’s scripture is:
The LORD passed in front of him and proclaimed: The LORD—the LORD is a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger and abounding in faithful love and truth, maintaining faithful love to a thousand generations, forgiving iniquity, rebellion, and sin. But he will not leave the guilty unpunished, bringing the consequences of the fathers’ iniquity on the children and grandchildren to the third and fourth generation.
Exodus 34:6-7
Declaration
God is compassionate and gracious.

Affirmation
I am compassionate.
God’s character is one of grace, compassion, and faithfulness. This passage displays God’s complex nature. He is full of forgiveness and love, yet he punishes those who do not repent. That is the beauty of God’s grace. We are covered with a favor that we don’t deserve. How benevolent of our Father? As image-bearers of God, we should display that compassion to others.

Heavenly Father, I believe that you sent your Son, Jesus Christ, to release me from my sins. Lord, I give you my whole life. Use me for Your glory. Today, I declare that I am forgiven and I am a new creature in Christ. Thank you, God, for saving me from that which had me bound. Amen.
