As believers, we are God’s children. A child of God will reflect His character. Each week, we focus on one scripture while highlighting a declaration (Who God is) and affirmation (Who we are as believers).

This week’s scripture is:

Because of our God’s merciful compassion, the dawn from on high will visit us to shine on those who live in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

Luke 1:78-79

Declaration

God is illuminating His peace.

Affirmation

I am guided down the path of peace as I follow Jesus Christ.

Zechariah’s prophesy (v 67-89) foretells the coming salvation through Jesus Christ and, his son, John the Baptist’s role as the “forerunner” of Christ. As prophesized, John the Baptist would go on to lead many people to repent from their sins and receive baptism by water. Jesus’ earthly arrival depicted as sunrise is such beautiful imagery. Just thinking about how the sun illuminates all the dark shadows as it rises in the Eastern sky, fills me with joy because that light has been shined on us. We were living in the shadow of sin and death, but our belief in Jesus Christ has brightened our lives for eternity. To know that as we walk through the darkness of this world, we have a light and a guide into a path of God’s peace is comforting to the soul.

A Prayer Starter…

Heavenly Father, As we enter the Advent season, may we never forget the abundance of Your mercy and compassion. When we begin to feel unworthiness creep in, Shine your light into the darkest areas of our souls. Illuminate the good soil and Eliminate the bad soil, so that we may be fruitful forerunners for you, Lord. We ask that you fill us with peace that overflows into whatever environment we encounter… May others know you through the lives we lead each and every day… Amen.

S. Enoch

In His Presence

My mother says, “Old makes way for new” and the cold days of December are no exception. They make way for a fresh new year each January. The days after New Year’s always feel full of potential and anticipation to me. While many people are looking forward to the coming year or accomplishing new goals and resolutions, I take this time to look back. It’s always eye-opening to see how little decisions add up; and how one small shift changes the trajectory of life. I truly believe that taking time to reflect during the month of January re-centers my vision for the year ahead.

Advent Reflections – Even in the Waiting – Day 5

The passage illustrates the importance of being a beacon of light in dim, dark places, as guided by Luke 11:33-36. One must not let comfort lead to dulled awareness, but instead consciously illuminate one’s environment. It urges self-reflection on how one’s personal light can lead others towards embracing Jesus.

Advent Reflections – Even in the Waiting – Day 4

The Lord’s Prayer 11 Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” 2 And he said to them, “When you pray, say: “Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. 3 Give us each day our daily bread, 4 and forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone
