Weekly Declaration

Weekly Declaration

As believers, we are God’s children. A child of God will reflect His character. Each week, we focus on one scripture while highlighting a declaration (Who God is) and affirmation (Who we are as believers).

This week’s scripture is:

All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet:  “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).

Matthew 1:22-23 NIV

Declaration

God fulfills His promises.

Affirmation

I am confident that God’s promises will come to pass.

Joseph was in the middle of deciding how to handle the unexpected pregnancy of his soon-to-be wife, Mary. The Bible says he was a righteous man (v.19) and did not want to disgrace Mary publicly, so he had decided to secretly divorce her. A move that shows his compassionate nature. Despite what he decided, an angel came to Joseph in a dream with very clear instructions: confirming who he was (son of David), to not be afraid to get married, and that Jesus was destined for a divine purpose. The dream took place to fulfill the promise mentioned in Isaiah (7:14). This illustrates that the will of God prevails. Let me encourage you to stay open in expectation of the Lord speaking to you. There may be decisions that you are making in your own strength and the Holy Spirit is whispering there’s a better way. Trust that God’s promises will come to pass.

A Prayer Starter…

Heavenly Father, As we continue our journey through the Advent season, we repeatedly see the fulfillment of your promises. Thank you for sending your son, Jesus Christ, to save us from our sins. It is through his sacrifice that we have eternal life. Continue to speak to us and through us, so that others may see a glimpse of your wonderful nature, Lord. When we encounter challenging situations, let us not lean on ourselves, but turn towards you. Help us to continue to put our trust in you… Amen.

S. Enoch
