Weekly Meditation – Genesis 17:1‭-‬8

God’s word provides clear instruction to His children. As we meditate on His Word, we find exactly what we need to continue our journey through this life.

This week, our passage for meditation is Genesis 17:1-8

‘When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty ; walk before me faithfully and be blameless. Then I will make my covenant between me and you and will greatly increase your numbers.” Abram fell facedown, and God said to him, “As for me, this is my covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations. No longer will you be called Abram ; your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations. I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you. I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you. The whole land of Canaan, where you now reside as a foreigner, I will give as an everlasting possession to you and your descendants after you; and I will be their God.” ‘

PAUSE

Approaching the word of God for meditation requires us to pause (the creation of space).

  • Create an environment to reduce interruption of thought.
  • Grab some resources, like different bible versions or commentaries.
  • Quiet your thoughts in order to receive God’s wisdom and instruction.

How happy is the one who does not walk in the advice of the wicked

or stand in the pathway with sinners or sit in the company of mockers!

Instead, his delight is in the LORD’s instruction,

and he meditates on it day and night.

He is like a tree planted beside flowing streams that bears its fruit in its season and whose leaf does not wither.

Whatever he does prospers.

Psalm 1:1-3
