But Elijah said to her, “Don’t be afraid! Go ahead and do just what you’ve said, but make a little bread for me first. Then use what’s left to prepare a meal for yourself and your son. For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: There will always be flour and olive oil left in your containers until the time when the Lord sends rain and the crops grow again!”

1 Kings 17:13‭-‬14 NLT

There’s this saying that familiarity breeds contempt. Looking at the same things or people every day can grow old. As time passes, you lose respect for things, or even people you cherish, because they’re common or close to you. Feeding a familiarity mindset will starve the beauty of God’s blessings.

God has placed provision all around you.

Today, I want to encourage you to look around and see God’s provision! There were seasons that you prayed for things that you have right now at this moment. Look around. Shelter. Family. Job. There are so many things to be grateful for, even in the waiting season. Don’t let familiarity rob you from recognizing God’s provision until new blessings rain down.

Advent Reflections – Even in the Waiting – Day 1

As a child, nothing compared to the excitement of being able to sit up and waiting for New Year’s Day. We’d sit up as long as possible on December 31st awaiting the coming year. We knew what was coming, yet we had to watch the clock or we’d miss it. In this passage, Jesus reminds us of the signs before his second coming. He teaches that in order to recognize the second coming, we must stay alert. These verses prompt us to be mindful of the state of our hearts and to stay ready at all times for the coming day of God’s judgment.

REFLECTION – Do you find yourself growing weary in your walk with the Lord? How can you stay encouraged and ready for Jesus Christ’s second coming?

I know that most people are in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the season, but December always reminds me to slow down and reflect. It’s something about the cold weather that forces me to cozy up and sit still… I believe the stillness opens
