Weekly Declaration

POSTED ON

May 23, 2022

As believers, we are God’s children. A child of God will reflect His character. Each week, we focus on one scripture while highlighting a declaration (Who God is) and affirmation (Who we are as believers).

This week’s scripture is:

13 At the top of the stairway stood the Lord, and he said, “I am the Lord, the God of your grandfather Abraham, and the God of your father, Isaac. The ground you are lying on belongs to you. I am giving it to you and your descendants. 14 Your descendants will be as numerous as the dust of the earth! They will spread out in all directions—to the west and the east, to the north and the south. And all the families of the earth will be blessed through you and your descendants. 15 What’s more, I am with you, and I will protect you wherever you go. One day I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have finished giving you everything I have promised you.”

16 Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I wasn’t even aware of it!”

Genesis 28:13-16 NLT

Declaration

God still speaks.

Affirmation

I will distinguish the voice of God above all else.

Jacob is running for his life after finding out that his brother, Esau, intends to kill him. Under the guise of finding a wife, Jacob sets off for Paddan-aram to stay with his uncle. One night, Jacob sets up camp and falls asleep. In his dream, he sees angels ascending and descending stairs and the Lord begins to speak to him. When Jacob awakes, he declares that he wasn’t aware of the Lord’s presence. As Christians, we know that God is present everywhere. Yet, Jacob was not in a place to perceive God, until he rested/fell asleep. Let’s see this as a reminder to not allow our circumstances from distracting us from recognizing the presence or voice of the Lord. We will commit to distinguishing the voice of God above all else.

A Prayer Starter…

Heavenly Father, You are present and You still speak. Thank You for responding when I call and even in the times when I don’t call. Lord, help me to distinguish Your voice above all else. May I be more aware of Your presence all around me from this moment forwards… In Jesus’ name. Amen.

S. Enoch

In His Presence

My mother says, “Old makes way for new” and the cold days of December are no exception. They make way for a fresh new year each January. The days after New Year’s always feel full of potential and anticipation to me. While many people are looking forward to the coming year or accomplishing new goals and resolutions, I take this time to look back. It’s always eye-opening to see how little decisions add up; and how one small shift changes the trajectory of life. I truly believe that taking time to reflect during the month of January re-centers my vision for the year ahead.

Advent Reflections – Even in the Waiting – Day 5

The passage illustrates the importance of being a beacon of light in dim, dark places, as guided by Luke 11:33-36. One must not let comfort lead to dulled awareness, but instead consciously illuminate one’s environment. It urges self-reflection on how one’s personal light can lead others towards embracing Jesus.

Advent Reflections – Even in the Waiting – Day 4

The Lord’s Prayer 11 Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” 2 And he said to them, “When you pray, say: “Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. 3 Give us each day our daily bread, 4 and forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone
