On a Personal Note – Share the Light

You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

Matthew 5:14-16 NLT

One night, I got up trying to make my way to the bathroom. As I navigated around the bed and headed toward the bathroom, I was met with a surprise. Some strange object was in my path and I stubbed my toe. So not only was I in the dark, but now I was in pain and a tad bit disoriented. I realized that I just needed to get to the bathroom and get the light on. It would be just enough to look back and figure out what I had stepped on. My son’s little toy taught me an important lesson. Finding your way when it’s dark is challenging. Once you get a little bit of light, you can see a little bit better. But what you do in the light is even more important.

We stumble around in the dark before we find Jesus. And after we find him, our path is illuminated. We’re able to see the sins we stumbled over in the past. We’re able to move beyond them and find clarity. But what’s more, is that God calls us to do something else. We’re called to show others the same light that Jesus showed us. We demonstrate it in our actions and how we navigate life. We don’t hide the light of Jesus for ourselves. We share it freely. So today, I want to challenge you to share the light. Don’t allow others around you to continue to walk in darkness. When you feel like you’re just one person, remember how small a candle flame is, but how far the light casts. In the same way, your light can spread further than you think. So let our Heavenly Father’s glory be on display in you each and every day.

In His Presence

My mother says, “Old makes way for new” and the cold days of December are no exception. They make way for a fresh new year each January. The days after New Year’s always feel full of potential and anticipation to me. While many people are looking forward to the coming year or accomplishing new goals and resolutions, I take this time to look back. It’s always eye-opening to see how little decisions add up; and how one small shift changes the trajectory of life. I truly believe that taking time to reflect during the month of January re-centers my vision for the year ahead.

Advent Reflections – Even in the Waiting – Day 5

The passage illustrates the importance of being a beacon of light in dim, dark places, as guided by Luke 11:33-36. One must not let comfort lead to dulled awareness, but instead consciously illuminate one’s environment. It urges self-reflection on how one’s personal light can lead others towards embracing Jesus.

Advent Reflections – Even in the Waiting – Day 4

The Lord’s Prayer 11 Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” 2 And he said to them, “When you pray, say: “Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. 3 Give us each day our daily bread, 4 and forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone
