“Comfort, comfort my people,”
Isaiah 40:1-2 NLT
says your God.
2 “Speak tenderly to Jerusalem.
Tell her that her sad days are gone
and her sins are pardoned.
Yes, the Lord has punished her twice over
for all her sins.”
When we get into trouble, we expect leniency. We want to receive less punishment than we deserve. It’s rare to find someone who actually likes to be punished to the full extent of the law. Sometimes we forget that God values justice just as much as mercy. He disciplines out of love, not unkindness.
God comforts and restores after discipline.
Today, I want to encourage you to endure! The Word of God repeatedly demonstrates that God operates in justice. The Lord disciplines those He loves, including His beloved children. And after the discipline is completed, God comforts and restores. He blesses and gives a fresh start. So endure the discipline, learn the lessons, and operate in newfound wisdom.
Reflect – So often we pray and petition for seasons of discipline to end, have you considered praying for strength to endure, trusting that God knows what is best for you?
