Prince of Peace – שַׂר־שָׁלֽוֹם – śǎr-·šā·lômʹ
Wonderful Counselor. Mighty God. Eternal Father. Prince of Peace.
Jesus embodies each of these names and more. As we examine the Hebrew language, it adds richness to the meaning of Prince of Peace. Today, we’re going to do a deeper dive into the name, Prince of Peace.
Let’s break down Prince of (sar) and Peace (shalom).
śǎr – representative of the king, official; commander; district leader; person of note, head, first; higher being, guardian angel
šā·lôm – peace; prosperity, success; welfare, state of health; friendliness; deliverance, salvation
Peace in Hebrew is deeper than tranquility. It’s a state of wellness, safety, friendship, and contentment. Peace is completeness. And Jesus is the commander of that state living. Jesus does more than just usher us into a state of tranquility. He invites us into a place of completeness; Of rightness and relationship with God.
