Weekly Declaration

As believers, we are God’s children. A child of God will reflect His character. Each week, we focus on one scripture while highlighting a declaration (Who God is) and affirmation (Who we are as believers).

This week’s scripture is:

I am deeply depressed; therefore I remember you from the land of Jordan and the peaks of Hermon, from Mount Mizar.

7 Deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls; all your breakers and your billows have swept over me. 8 The Lord will send his faithful love by day; his song will be with me in the night— a prayer to the God of my life.

PSALMS 42:6-8 CSB

Declaration

God’s love is unfailing.

Affirmation

I am confident in God’s love for me.

Imagine sitting at the base of a waterfall. The water cascading down. The turbulence of waves below. The constant beating of water. The roar of rushing streams. It’s not a peaceful place to be. It’s overwhelming. Yet, this is how David described his state of depression. He was in the middle of a storm, but he had hope; hope in God’s unfailing love for him. He had confidence in God which guided his actions of prayer, song, and praise. In the middle of our storms, we, too, can ground ourselves in the truth of God’s love.

A Prayer Starter…
Heavenly Father, You are love. I thank You for loving me as I am and sending your son, Jesus Christ, as the ultimate expression of love for me. Lord, I am confident in You and trust Your plans for me. Help me to walk boldly in Your love and share it with others… In Jesus’ name. Amen.

The passage illustrates the importance of being a beacon of light in dim, dark places, as guided by Luke 11:33-36. One must not let comfort lead to dulled awareness, but instead consciously illuminate one’s environment. It urges self-reflection on how one’s personal light can lead others towards embracing Jesus.

Advent Reflections – Even in the Waiting – Day 2

I have been lost a time or two. Usually, because I got distracted and wandered off the intended path. Whatever sparked my interest was enough to cause me to lose sight of my intended destination. In this passage, we find Jesus as a child, so focused on His Father’s business that he wanders off from his parents. In my own life, I’ve found that I’m not prone to wander towards my father’s business….but away from it.
