“Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted over the earth.”
Psalms 46:10 BSB
Life comes at you fast. If you’re not careful, you’ll get to the end and look back wondering where the time went. You’ll see how your intentions weren’t always followed through on or those plans that you had been meaning to do were left undone. When we fail to slow down and be still, we miss awareness of God and key information for navigating life.
Psalms 46:10 has important wisdom for us today. It says to be still. That’s a command. It’s an instruction to clear ourselves of distractions and pause. But it’s not a moment for us to be idle. It’s a call to be mindful. To raise our awareness of who God is.
So often, we can get caught in the busyness of life that we miss God’s presence. We’re too busy hustling and bustling that we don’t even notice the new things that he’s doing. We are so distracted by the cares of life that we can’t perceive the ways that He’s moving. As a result, we simply don’t tap into the fullness of power and wisdom that we have direct access to.
This verse reminds us of the proper perspective and pace of life. A life lived in slow intentionality. A life full of recognizing the greatness of God.
Today, I want to encourage you to slow down and just dwell in the Lord’s presence. Whether it’s prayer, meditation, worship, or reading your Bible, do something that causes you to intentionally slow down and reorient your life to the Exalted One, our Heavenly Father.
