Finding Rest

Have you ever had a morning where you’re already exhausted? You look at the clock and the day is nowhere near over. Rest seems like a distant dream. Thoughts of ‘How am I going to keep going?’ pass through your head.

It’s easy to allow those circumstances to keep you from striving to do what God has called you to do. In each and every “ordinary” day, we have been called to do God’s will. That may look different based on what season we are in. Yet one thing is certain, we must steward our energy and time wisely.

1 Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the guards stand watch in vain.

In vain you rise early and stay up late, toiling for food to eat—  for he grants sleep to those he loves.

Psalm 127:1-2 NIV

King Solomon writes how futile it is to build, work, or even protect ourselves without God. This verse of Psalms contains a needed wisdom, God grants rest to his beloved. If we trust in Him, we can rest secure in His promises, because we know that God works even as we sleep.

Lean into that truth. Invite God into those questioning thoughts and moments when you feel exhausted. Feel His peace wash over your heart. Continue to walk forward in His will with a renewed spirit.

A Prayer starter

Heavenly Father, I am exhausted. Renew my spirit, God. Show me how to use my time wisely and for your glory. Redefine rest in my life. Remove the world’s definition of productivity and replace it with your everlasting peace… Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer 11 Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” 2 And he said to them, “When you pray, say: “Father, hallowed be your name. Advent Reflections – Even in the Waiting – Day 2

I have been lost a time or two. Usually, because I got distracted and wandered off the intended path. Whatever sparked my interest was enough to cause me to lose sight of my intended destination. In this passage, we find Jesus as a child, so focused on His Father’s business that he wanders off from his parents. In my own life, I’ve found that I’m not prone to wander towards my father’s business….but away from it.
