On a personal note – You are Valuable

As a child, I would draw pretend checks and dollars. I would hold on to them as if they were real money. To me, my drawings held value. Sometimes I’d give them to my parents. Can you imagine that? A 6-year-old handing you a check for one million dollars. The child believes it’s worth a million, but in the world, it’s just a piece of paper with scribbles. That memory called to mind Matthew 10 and our relationship with God.

29 Are not two little sparrows sold for a copper coin? And yet not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. 30 But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered [for the Father is sovereign and has complete knowledge].

31 So do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows.

Matthew 10:29-31 amp

In God’s eyes, we are valuable, more valuable than the world would assess us to be. Jesus taught that the sparrow wasn’t worth much in the market, but God knows when that very same sparrow falls to the ground. God is there and watching because he cares. The sparrow has value in His eyes. If He cares for the sparrow, how much more does He care for you? How much more valuable are you in His eyes? Just like coins have value in our hands, you have value in God’s hands. Let Him give you value. Let Him use you for His glory.

While many people are looking forward to the coming year or accomplishing new goals and resolutions, I take this time to look back. It’s always eye-opening to see how little decisions add up; and how one small shift changes the trajectory of life. I truly believe that taking time to reflect during the month of January re-centers my vision for the year ahead.

Advent Reflections – Even in the Waiting – Day 5

The passage illustrates the importance of being a beacon of light in dim, dark places, as guided by Luke 11:33-36. One must not let comfort lead to dulled awareness, but instead consciously illuminate one’s environment. It urges self-reflection on how one’s personal light can lead others towards embracing Jesus.

Advent Reflections – Even in the Waiting – Day 4

The Lord’s Prayer 11 Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” 2 And he said to them, “When you pray, say: “Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. 3 Give us each day our daily bread, 4 and forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone
