Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep.
Romans 12:15 ESV
Empathy is harder and harder to find these days. People have become more self centered and turn away from community. But there is power in community and power in empathy. When I say empathy, I mean having the ability to understand and share in someone else’s feelings. As Christians, we should be able to be empathetic to our brothers and sisters in Christ. Romans teaches us to rejoice when they rejoice or weep when they weep, yet too often, we avoid grief. We avoid cheering someone else on because we are full of comparison or envy. Today, we’re coming against the walls in our hearts that block us from being empathetic towards the plights of others.
Reflect – When was the last time you came alongside someone experiencing big emotions? In your own words, Pray that God opens your heart and hands to walk alongside others better…
