As believers, we are God’s children. A child of God will reflect His character. Each week, we focus on one scripture while highlighting a declaration (Who God is) and affirmation (Who we are as believers).

This week’s scripture is:

Now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet: 23 See, the virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a son, and they will name him Immanuel, which is translated “God is with us.”

Matthew 1:22-23 CSB

Declaration

God fulfills His word.

Affirmation

I will see the promises of God.

At some point, we’ve been let down by another person and that experience finds its way into our minds. We often underestimate the influence of others on our beliefs. When faced with miraculous promises, our mind may wonder, “How can God not let me down, when all I’ve known is disappointment from others?” There will be times when we don’t fully embrace the promises of God, simply because it’s beyond our comprehension. But let Jesus’s birth reorient your mind to the ultimate promise fulfilled. God sent His son to save us from our sins and invite us into eternity in heaven.

A Prayer Starter…
Heavenly Father, You are a promise keeper. You always fulfill Your word. Lord, I thank you for all the promises you have spoken over me. Help me to stay focused on You and not my past experiences. May I always remember the ultimate promise fulfilled through Your son, Jesus Christ… In Jesus’ name. Amen.

While many people are looking forward to the coming year or accomplishing new goals and resolutions, I take this time to look back. It’s always eye-opening to see how little decisions add up; and how one small shift changes the trajectory of life. I truly believe that taking time to reflect during the month of January re-centers my vision for the year ahead.

Advent Reflections – Even in the Waiting – Day 5

The passage illustrates the importance of being a beacon of light in dim, dark places, as guided by Luke 11:33-36. One must not let comfort lead to dulled awareness, but instead consciously illuminate one’s environment. It urges self-reflection on how one’s personal light can lead others towards embracing Jesus.

Advent Reflections – Even in the Waiting – Day 4

The Lord’s Prayer 11 Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” 2 And he said to them, “When you pray, say: “Father, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. 3 Give us each day our daily bread, 4 and forgive us our sins, for we ourselves forgive everyone
