Encouragement for Today

14 Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

Hebrews 4:14-16 ESV

If there’s one thing that satan knows how to do, it’s tempting humans. We are bombarded on every side by material possessions, instant gratification, and an onslaught of earthly things. It is neverending. It’s isolating and difficult to withstand alone. But there is one, who deeply understands our weaknesses and struggles.

God meets us with grace and mercy.

Today, I want to encourage you to draw near to the throne! When we approach the throne of grace, we are met with sympathy and understanding. Jesus sits in heaven but does not forget his earthly experiences. He understands the power of temptation because he overcame it, sin, and death. Jesus is our High Priest, constantly interceding on our behalf at the right hand of God, our father. Each temptation we encounter is an invitation to draw near to God through prayer. It is in those moments of weakness that we are met with help to endure.

Reflect – What temptation are you struggling with right now? The next time you are faced with it, draw near to God in prayer and receive the strength to withstand it…

One must not let comfort lead to dulled awareness, but instead consciously illuminate one’s environment. It urges self-reflection on how one’s personal light can lead others towards embracing Jesus.

Advent Reflections – Even in the Waiting – Day 2

I have been lost a time or two. Usually, because I got distracted and wandered off the intended path. Whatever sparked my interest was enough to cause me to lose sight of my intended destination. In this passage, we find Jesus as a child, so focused on His Father’s business that he wanders off from his parents. In my own life, I’ve found that I’m not prone to wander towards my father’s business….but away from it.
